TotM AUGUST 2013

This month's Tank of the Month belongs to Anne-Marie Carey.
Inhabitants:- * 6 Neon Tetra (Rosy)
- * 8 Sundadanio Axelrodi (Blue)
How big is your tank?
My tank is a 40L bayview tank.
What equipment are you using (filtration, lighting, heater, CO2 gear etc)?
I use an Eheim 2213 external canister filter, an Aqua One 100W heater (in winter), and a 12W LED light. I have tried to choose items that are energy efficient for this low-tech tank.
What aquascaping have you done (gravel, plants, corals, etc)?
My tank has around 3 inches of substrate, including a generic aqua soil (first two inches) and ADA's Amazonia II in powder form (top inch). There are three pieces of stone arranged as a centrepiece, with two types of cryptocoryne to fill the space in between. The background is a row of five anubias nana cuttings on driftwood, and the front has a mass of java fern on driftwood. There is also some grass in the front, and a stem plant at the back which I added to get some height while the anubias grow. I'm not sure of these species as they were given to me, but I think they are saggitaria and bacopa floribunda.
How much time do you spend maintaining your tank per week?
I usually spend around an hour a week in total.
What is your maintenance routine (water changes, chemical additions etc)?
At the moment I am trying a schedule of 25% water changes once a week, with weekly additions of Seachem Equilibrium, Phosphorous and Nitrogen.
What do you feed your fish?
I feed them some partly crushed Nutrafin Max and occasionally blood worms.
Tell us some interesting/unique about your tank?
This is my first attempt at both a tropical and planted tank, and it's been really fun to put together and see success with the growth of my plants. The real highlight for me though is my tiny axelrodi fish - they are definitely the smallest and nicest looking fish I've ever had. They are really energetic and outgoing little fish, and have inspired me to try a small tank dedicated to micro rasboras next.
