Pond Season Is Here!

Spring is here and it is the ideal time of year to spruce up your garden pond for the coming summer. Some of the jobs you should be thinking about doing now include:

  • * Large water change and general clean up, in particular remove any build up of dead leaves and other organic rubbish from the bottom of the pond. Remember to use a pond water conditioner to treat the water to remove chlorine etc. when adding new water to the pond.
  • * Clean out your pond filter, clean the impeller etc, and make sure everything is working properly. This includes changing the UV tube if you have a UV filter. If you haven’t got a pond filter, consider installing one to help maintain water quality.
  • * Re-pot any potted plants such as water lilies etc. and replace or re-stock on any pond plants for the coming season.
  • * Finally do a quick check of the fish, do they appear healthy etc? Pond fish can sometimes look a bit ‘ratty’ over winter due to the low water temperatures but a bit of TLC by ensuring the water quality is correct, filters are clean and feeding some good quality fish food will generally spruce them up. Remember to make sure there are plenty of hiding places in the pond so the fish can get away from bright sunlight and predators like birds.

If you don’t have a pond, now is the time to set up a new one. We have a great range of pond filters and the Sicce ‘Happy Pond Kits’ with volumes from 120 litres up to 680 litres for the largest kit. They come complete with pond liner and filter pump, with the larger models also including a Halley Pond light to light up your special water feature. Easy to install and looks great!
