Range: Africa: Lake Malawi
Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.
Feeding: Carnivorous. Dry foods and frozen foods.
Additional Comments: Peacock Cichlids are among some of the most popular of Malawi Cichlids, Jacobfreibergi is kept in a range of geographic and line-bred colour forms. Mamelela Peacocks (Undu Reef) is one of the nicer Jacob forms, mature males becoming predominantly purple and yellow. Provide plenty of rocky areas for hiding places.
