Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.

Feeding: Carnivorous. Dry foods and frozen foods.

Additional Comments: Relatively peaceful despite its large adult size. Large specimens often develop fleshy lips. Females remain smaller than males and are the same colour as juveniles. In nature mainly feeds on invertebrates.
