Range: Africa: Lake Malawi
Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.
Feeding: Carnivorous. Piscivorous, feeding mainly on small fish. Frozen and dry foods.
Additional Comments: Streamlined predator adapted to ambushing its prey. Adult males very attractive with numerous colours. Despite its common name, this fish does not normally target the eyes of fish.
