Range: Southern tributaries of central Amazon basin
Reproduction: Egg-scatterer among plants, needs soft water. Fry initially require very small foods.
Feeding: Omnivorous. Eats all normal foods, appreciates occasional feeds of live or frozen foods.
Additional Comments: The common name arose because this fish's stripes along its body are the same colour as Belgium's flag: red, yellow and black. Difficult to breed, most stock is wild caught from South America.
