Range: Lake Malawi: rocky habitat

Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.

Feeding: Herbivorous. Eats all normal foods, but needs vegetable foods.

Additional Comments: Needs several hiding places. Exists in several colour variants around the lake. Underslung mouth is an adaption to grazing aufswuch (algae) off rocks in shallow wave-influenced areas.
