Range: Africa: Lake Malawi
Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.
Feeding: Carnivorous. Piscivorous, feeding mainly on small fish. Frozen and dry foods.
Additional Comments: Nimbochromis are fish predators, in nature relying on the camouflage of their strongly patterned markings to ambush prey. These are hardy fish with strong appetites, best kept with other large-growing Rift Lake Cichlids. Venustus are very popular with their bold markings, adult males develop a strong blue colouration with a golden blaze across the back.
