Range: Africa: Lake Malawi

Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.

Feeding: Carnivorous. Dry foods and frozen foods.

Additional Comments: This species often occurs in schools and is one of the least territorial of Malawi Cichlids. Colourful from a young age, ideal for Malawi Cichlid community tanks. Now considered a colour form of Pseudotropheus elegans.
