Range: Lake Malawi: Ndumbi Point, Pombo Rocks

Reproduction: Mouthbrooder: after spawning, the females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming. Males will mate with multiple females. The fry are easily raised with first foods such as baby brine shrimp.

Feeding: Herbivorous and omnivorous. Frozen foods, but also dry foods with vegetable content.

Additional Comments: Bright blue with prominent black vertical bars, juveniles and adults both show the same bold colour pattern. Extremely territorial so provide plenty of hiding places.
