Reproduction: Mouthbrooder, females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming.

Additional Comments: This mouthbrooding Cichlid is one of several species known as Featherfins: mature males have long ventral fins with bright 'egg-dummies' at the fin tips. This species prefers fine sand, it occurs in a wide range of geographic populations.
