Range: Lake Tanganyika, sandy bottom areas

Reproduction: Mouthbrooder, females incubate the eggs in their mouth until the fry are free-swimming.

Feeding: Carnivorous. Eats all normal foods.

Additional Comments: Xenotilapia inhabit shallow sandy areas of the lake, they sift the bottom for food items such as small invertebrates. Like many other Tanganyikan Cichlids, this genus occurs in many geographic variants.
