Range: China
Reproduction: Breeds in Spring as water temperatures start to increase. Scatters adhesive eggs amongst plants, the adults will prey on the eggs and fry if they find them. First foods for the fry include freshwater plankton (in ponds), or fry foods such as Vinegar Eels and Fry powder food (if raising in tanks).
Feeding: Omnivorous. Eats all normal foods, including aquatic plants.
Additional Comments: Goldfish are the single most popular aquarium or pond fish, having been cultivated for thousands of years. The Black Moor variety is believed to have first appeared in China in the 19th century. Also known as Black Dragon-eye or Black Telescope, it makes a nice contrast to more brightly coloured fishes.
