Range: China

Reproduction: Breeds in Spring as water temperatures start to increase. Scatters adhesive eggs amongst plants, the adults will prey on the eggs and fry if they find them. First foods for the fry include freshwater plankton (in ponds), or fry foods such as Vinegar Eels and Fry powder food (if raising in tanks).

Feeding: Omnivorous. Eats all normal foods, including aquatic plants.

Additional Comments: The Butterflytail is one of a number of fancy goldfish varieties best viewed from above rather than side-on: it's beautiful symmetrical tail can then be fully appreciated. Suitable for indoor tanks or bowls, and also outdoors (but provide protection from predators such as birds and cats!)
