Reproduction: Breeds in Spring as water temperatures start to increase. Scatters adhesive eggs amongst plants, the adults will prey on the eggs and fry if they find them. First foods for the fry include freshwater plankton (in ponds), or fry foods such as Vinegar Eels and Fry powder food (if raising in tanks).
Feeding: Omnivorous. Eats all normal foods, including aquatic plants.
Additional Comments: Lionheads are one of a number of fancy goldfish varieties lacking a dorsal fin. Larger specimens develop an impressive head growth which encompasses the fish's head (reminiscent of male lion's mane - hence the term Lionhead). Very similar to Ranchu except the back of the caudal peduncle does not normally taper down to the tail. Suitable for indoor tanks and outdoor garden ponds (but provide protection from predators if kept outdoors.)
