Range: Eastern and Southern Brazil
Reproduction: Eggs are laid on a hard surface, the eggs (and hatched fry) are guarded by both parents.
Feeding: Omnivorous. Small live and frozen foods, but also dry food.
Additional Comments: Needs hiding places. Pairing fish. Fine sand (eg 2mm) is useful for this fish as it likes to sift the substrate for food. Large specimens make excellent display fish, but can be very aggressive.
