Range: Clohesy River, Far north Queensland
Reproduction: Eggs laid on a firm surface and guarded by male until they hatch.
Feeding: Carnivore, prefers live or frozen foods, or pellets. Will eat small fish.
Additional Comments: Variable native gudgeon, with many subtle geographic colour variations. Hardy and easy to care for.Sometimes nips the fins of tankmates, but is generally quite peaceful if kept in a large sized tank with similar sized tankmates. An expert jumper, use a tight fitting lid. This particular form was originally collected in a billabong (anabranch) adjacent to the Clohesy River west of Cairns, in nature it can grow to 20-25cm which is very large for M.adspersa.
