Reproduction: Eggs laid on a firm surface and guarded by male until they hatch.
Feeding: Carnivore, prefers live or frozen foods, or pellets. Will eat small fish.
Additional Comments: Like rainbowfishes, Purple spot Gudgeons occur in numerous colour variations. Fish at Utchee Ck (near Innisfail) are one of the nicer forms of this species, having attractive patterning overlaid on a light golden body. Provide a tight fitting cover - Purple spots are expert jumpers!
