Range: South America: Amazon basin
Reproduction: Eggs are laid on a hard surface, the eggs (and hatched fry) are guarded by both parents.
Feeding: Carnivorous, partly piscivorous. Greedy eater, prefers bulky foods.
Additional Comments: Oscar's are often sold in petshops as 'babies' but they grow very quickly and are an efficient predator. They require good filtration as they dig alot and can be messy eaters! Oscars make a great 'pet fish' as they have plenty of personality.
