Range: Southern Brazil: Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo
Reproduction: Attaches eggs to plants or on the aquarium glass.
Feeding: Omnivorous and carnivorous, prefers sinking foods.
Additional Comments: Corydoras are ideal aquarium fish, peaceful, active and they are also very useful at detecting uneaten food items on the substrate. Best kept in a small group, with peaceful tankmates such as tetras. Barbatus grows much larger than most Corydoras, males become very attractive with their black and gold colouration as they mature. Breeds at around 20 C. Now placed in genus Scleromystax.
