Reproduction: Open substrate brooder.
Feeding: Herbivorous. Eats all normal foods and plants.
Additional Comments: Pairing fish. Digs a lot. Needs hiding places. Also known as Quetzal Cichlid (Quetzal are very colourful Central American birds) because adult Synspilum display a multitude of different colours. Begins to show full colours at around 12cm.
