Range: Malayan peninsula, Indonesia
Reproduction: Males build a bubblenest in floating plants. After spawning, the eggs are guarded by the male until the fry have hatched and are free-swimming.
Feeding: Carnivorous, will accept dry foods, but prefers live or frozen foods.
Additional Comments: Best kept in a single species tank or with tetras etc. Provide hiding places such as plant thickets and driftwood. Males start to show their full colour when fully settled into their aquarium. Please note most wild Betta's are expert jumpers so use a tight-fitting cover!
