Range: India, Bangladesh (wild form)
Reproduction: Males build a bubblenest amongst plants at the surface. After spawning, the eggs are guarded by the male until the fry have hatched and are free-swimming. The fry require tiny live food such as Paramecium.
Feeding: Omnivorous. Eats all normal foods.
Additional Comments: Shy at first, prefers a densely planted tank also with floating plants. Tankmates to include fish such as Tetras and Rasboras. Males are very attractive in breeding colour, at other times the sexes are hard to tell apart. This fish sometimes spits water short distances above the surface to knock down prey, remisiniscent of Archerfish. The gold form is an aquarum strain.
